Once an Origin has been created, you can configure Origin Shield for it.
Origin Shield provides an additional caching layer before content is retrieved from the Origin. It uses another CDN POP (Point of Presence), typically with high cache capacity, through which requests pass before being forwarded to the Origin.
Origin Shield can significantly improve CDN cache offload, resulting in better performance and lower DTO.
Origin Shield is part of the Origin configuration and can be enabled separately for each CDN provider.
Note: Not all CDN providers support Origin Shield.
Origin Shield Location #
The location of the Origin Shield can have a significant impact on performance. As a general guideline, the Origin Shield CDN POP should be located as close as possible to your Origin.
This minimizes the performance overhead introduced when a cache miss occurs at the Origin Shield layer and the content needs to be retrieved from the Origin.
When configuring Origin Shield, specify the country where your Origin is located. Flumotion Smart Multi CDN will then automatically select the closest available CDN POP to your Origin for each CDN provider.
For example, if your Origin is an S3 bucket located in the AWS region us-east-1, select Virginia as your Origin Shield location.
