The CDN providers you add when you Add a CDN Provider to your account are considered Managed CDNs, meaning you can configure and manage them through the Flumotion Smart Multi CDN platform.
You can also use an Unmanaged CDN Provider with Flumotion Smart Multi CDN. There is no need to provide credentials for this provider. However, an unmanaged provider comes with the following limitations:
- You will not be able to configure it through the Flumotion Smart Multi CDN platform.
- The service dashboards will not contain data or statistics from this provider.
What can you do with an Unmanaged CDN Provider? #
- You can route traffic to this provider using Traffic Policies, including failover. This can be useful when migrating traffic from an existing or legacy provider.
- You can monitor the provider’s availability and performance by configuring a monitor.
When should I use an Unmanaged CDN Provider? #
An unmanaged provider can be useful in the following cases:
- Flumotion Smart Multi CDN does not yet support the provider.
- You want to gradually migrate traffic away from a provider that you are not planning to use in the future.
- You want to monitor a provider that is not part of your Flumotion Smart Multi CDN service.
