101 of streaming media FlumotionStreaming Media Magazine has included Flumotion in their Top 100 List of companies that matter the most in online video.

October 10, 2011. New York, NY. Flumotion, the leading Online Video and Radio Platform for live and on demand streaming, has been named as one of the most important players in the online video space.

“The companies in the Streaming Media 100 represent many different pieces of the online video ecosystem,” explains Streaming Media editor Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen, “but they all have one thing in common: The world of online video today would be markedly different without any of them. Each one, in its own way, has made the online video industry what it is today and is pushing it towards the future.”

Streaming Media polled a panel of video experts to compile the comprehensive industry list, judges included respected names such as Dan Rayburn, Tim Siglin and Dom Robinson. Each entry in the list was discussed and debated on individual merits by the panel using a ranking system. Flumotion joins the likes of Amazon, Apple, BBC, YouTube, and Facebook – the extensive list of video companies were ranked from 0 (doesn’t belong on the list at all) to 5 (absolutely must be on the list). Once all the rankings were in, all entries were averaged and the Streaming Media 100 revealed itself. The industry experts looked at the entire online video ecosystem, from content creation and production to ingest and encoding to distribution, syndication, and monetization.

Streaming Media’s goal was not to create a list of companies that are necessarily ‘better’ than others in the space, but rather a list of the ones that are the most important, most innovative, and have had the most impact on the space in the recent past and are likely to continue to do so in the future.
