# Creating a Monitor

You can create both **Performance** and **Availability Monitors** to monitor your traffic.

A service can have multiple Monitors. Each Monitor tests a single URL from hundreds of locations around the world.

Monitors check performance and availability across all CDN providers configured for the service and from all monitoring locations, regardless of the Traffic Policies currently defined.

You can then view the monitoring results over time.

To create a Monitor for your service:

1. Navigate to your service.
2. In the sidebar, select **Monitors**.
3. Click the **Add Monitor** button.
4. Complete the new Monitor form:

- **Type** – Select the type of Monitor: **Availability** or **Performance**.
- **Name** – Enter the Monitor name.
- **URL** – Enter the URL you want to monitor. The URL must match one of the Domains configured for the service. For example:

5. Click **Save**.

Once created, the new Monitor will appear in the list of Monitors.

You can then navigate to the **Availability** or **Performance** tab to view the monitoring results.

Monitors can also be used when [Creating a Traffic Policy](https://www.flumotion.com/docs/multiCDN/creating-a-traffic-policy/).
