| All components are based on the same technology | Use technologies that are not homogeneous |
| Everything works based on Linux | Several OS's within your streaming infrastructure (Windows, Mac Osx...) |
| The licenses for the different formats in each pack are included | License purchasing for each individual format |
| A single device can be encoded in multiple formats and multiple bitrates to serve several different streams produced from the same incoming signal | Hardware purchasing for each individual format |
| One technology and, therefore, one single training process for your team | Different technologies and, therefore, different training processes for your team |
| Flumotion is in charge of software updates for each format | Software update management for each format |

When distributing video on the Internet, one of the main obstacles is the need to use more than one solution to enable the entire streaming process, from acquisition to content distribution.
Flumotion’s new multiformat server is a unique, end-to-end solution, based on the powerful and proven GStreamer multimedia framework. Flumotion has built its platform based on this framework.
The Flumotion Streaming Server is multiformat and is therefore capable of reading and converting different formats for further distribution on the Internet, regardless of whether it is live or on demand.
The supported formats and codecs are: WMA and WMV, Flash VP6, MP3, H264, AAC, AAC+, OGG-Vorbis-Theora and DIRAC (introduced by the BBC R&D)...
Additionally, the Flumotion Streaming Server integrates the seeking functionality for both Flash and Windows media streams. This is one of the most requested features because it allows users to go directly to any given point in the video or audio without having to download the previous content, reducing the cost to the customer considerably since users only download what they want to see or listen to.
Flumotion has licensed all the codecs used for encoding.
Due to its distributed design, the Flumotion Server is able to balance the load of the streaming process through different machines. This is essential to make the stream management easier and to implement advanced solutions without compromising the stream quality. As an added bonus, there are no licensing limitations based on bandwidth or CPU’s used.
The Flumotion Server is easy to install and user-friendly for the customer. It integrates well with Linux. Its file management system is user-friendly and accessible.
It supports playlists, several accounts and connections, search engines, and statistics that can be analyzed with any kind of specialized software (Awstats, for instance).
Flumotion has ported its streaming server to Sun Solaris to allow Sun Fire servers to be integrated into a streaming content distribution cluster and to leverage the amazing traffic capacity of this hardware solution.
Flumotion offers the support and expertise of a professional team with proven know-how in this environment.
At Flumotion.net there's a downloadable open source version which is free to try using the Ogg-Vorbis-Theora format.
