The difference between the former and latter options is that the former avoids potential and critical connectivity problems between the client’s facilities and Flumotion's platform, and the stream is received in its original satellite or DVB-T quality. This means that the stream hasn't undergone any type of compression, which facilitates subsequently encoding it into the formats specified by the client with maximum quality.

Should the client prefer to perform the acquisition at their own facilities, Flumotion offers the Flumotion Encoder Software and its encoders for rental by the month. A professional solution, highly dependable and accessible.

Using Microsoft's encoding software (Windows Media Encoder) is another available option.

The platform then provides for real-time transcoding into different formats and levels of quality. For example, Flash Video, Ogg, Vorbis, Theora and Windows Media format outputs can be created from a live stream in Windows Media format at 500 kbps, and all of these formats can be in as many levels of quality or sizes that the client wishes.
