Flash took a while to take over from Java as the default client-side Web application framework, and now Microsoft is striking back with Silverlight to take back market share from Flash. Interestingly enough, Microsoft has switched from MMS and RTSP to the most open and fundamental protocol on the Internet: HTTP. They have developed Smooth Streaming on top of this, which allows switching between various bitrates of the same stream (a concept pioneered by Real as SureStream a decade ago). In case you have not already heard, we launched ‘play cuatro’ on the 4th of November, celebrating the 4th birthday of the TV station ‘Cuatro’. The WebTV features an easy intuitive media centre like navigation that creates a unique online user experience.
The beta-testing started two weeks before the launch with the Cuatro community. It was evident that during this period we had created a scalable and flexible solution. Cuatro communicated the start of its online video service through all company group channels such as CNN+ and El Pais. Simon Fuller, media mogul and creator of the Spice Girls and American Idol Show, has announced his new show, ‘If I Can Dream’, which will launch and be streamed live online at the beginning of this year. The show is different to its predecessors, because it will be streamed on Hulu first, before it gets screened on television, therefore encouraging viewers to go online. Nestlé TV has been awarded the title as one of the best 20 websites in the history of the .es domain, celebrating its 20th birthday. We together with Telefónica and OgilvyOne developed Nestlé TV in order to create an enthusiastic user base around their video content. The WebTV offers range of domestic channels that touch on a number of issues such as baby and pet care, while relating them to Nestlé products.
The State Secretary of Telecommunications and Information Society presented the award which was based on accessibility, innovation, number of visits, creativity or contribution to the internet. This is a huge achievement considering Nestlé TV beat off competition from over 1.1 million registered .es websites. Continue Reading…
