Flumotion launched ‘play cuatro’ on the 4th of November

This month sees some exciting new updates to play cuatro which will have a very positive impact on service speed and reliability of the site. Two of the most interesting enhanced features are visual seeking technology and contextual commenting. Let´s take a look at play cuatro’s enhancements in more detail…

Contextual Commenting

The contextual commenting tool is an advanced feature which allows viewers to comment on any scene within a video at any point in time. This added feature means that users can interact with the media in an engaging way which is directly relevant to the content. When the player is embedded onto a third party website, the comments, which stay within the video, can be managed via the Flumotion WebTV 360 BackOffice. Markers appear throughout the video to visibly indicate which parts of the stream contain comments.  Multiple comments can be added at the same point and users can view all comments made within the video. Broadband speeds are increasing, says European Commission

According to EU figures broadband has significantly improved in the last year

According to official EC figures released last week, broadband speeds in Europe have significantly increased in just one year, but more still needs to be done.

Figures revealed that in July 2010 29% of EU broadband lines ran at speeds of at least 10 Mbps, compared to just 15% in July 2009. Broadband sign-ups in the EU also increased, with 25.6 subscriptions per 100 EU citizens in 2010, compared to almost 24 in 2009.

Neelie Kroes, Commission Vice-President for the Digital Agenda stated that “Fast broadband is digital oxygen, essential for Europe´s prosperity and well-being. Take up and available speeds are improving, but we need to do more to reach our very fast broadband targets.” Continue Reading…

The Winners: 2010 Streaming Media European Readers’ Choice Awards

The Winners: 2010 Streaming Media European Readers’ Choice Awards

The winners of the annual Streaming Media European Readers’ Choice Awards were revealed last night during a ceremony attended by industry leaders in London. The awards coincide with the Streaming Media Europe conference and EXPO where we are speaking on 3 different panels.

Over 12,700 votes were cast this summer across 13 different categories, Flumotion were nominated in a record 8 categories and made finalist in 4 of them. Thanks to YOUR votes we have won again, but this year in two categories for ‘Best Webcast Platform’ and ‘Best Live Webcast of 2010’, sharing the podium with the likes of Spotify, ITV and Amazon Web Services.

Flumotion’s award season is far from over, because we have also received 6 nominations at the US version of the Streaming Media Awards. On Tuesday 18 October, Streaming Media will announce the finalists of each category and if Flumotion make it, we will find out in November if we bag our first award in the U.S. Continue Reading…
