Opera 10.60 First Browser with Native WebM Support

The latest version of the Opera browser was released last week, bringing the software to version 10.6. Opera reports a 50 percent speed boost over previous builds in rendering JavaScript and they are now claiming to be the fastest browser available. The press release stated: “With the final version of Opera 10.60, the browser scores more than 50 percent faster than its predecessor – which was the fastest browser on Earth – in key benchmark tests. This translates into a faster browsing experience for users on modern JavaScript-heavy sites such as Gmail and Facebook.”

Also, Opera is now officially the first browser with native support for Google’s new WebM video format and includes a range of other HTML5 features such as geolocation and web app caching. Chrome and Firefox both continue support WebM, but at this stage only in early developer builds. Continue Reading…

The information is sourced from Pew Internet and reveals some interesting research, such as, 69% of internet users watch or download video and 1 in 5 adults that watch online video also post videos.

Surprisingly over 50% of all videos are uploaded via social media websites such as Facebook and comedy continues to dominate as the theme of most videos. Flumotion has been chosen as one of the most promising Catalan companies during a presentation at bizbarcelona. The annual two day event is jointly led by the City Council of Barcelona, in collaboration with Ernst & Young. The event aims to position Barcelona as a city for international entrepreneurship and innovation under the program ‘aXelera for Global Excellence’.

The Jury nominated Flumotion to be a part of aXelera project, a selection of the most promising companies who display potential for international expansion and growth outside of Barcelona.
