In case you have not already heard, we launched ‘play cuatro’ on the 4th of November, celebrating the 4th birthday of the TV station ‘Cuatro’. The WebTV features an easy intuitive media centre like navigation that creates a unique online user experience.
The beta-testing started two weeks before the launch with the Cuatro community. It was evident that during this period we had created a scalable and flexible solution. Cuatro communicated the start of its online video service through all company group channels such as CNN+ and El Pais. Within a small time frame we handled the requests of many thousands of users without any problems. Ever since the number of users watching content through ‘play cuatro’ is growing rapidly.
So what is the solution about?
We developed a video wall as a natural starting point which guides the viewer through the featured content. In the full screen mode the media centre navigation enables a lean back viewing experience, which is unique compared to solutions offered by other WebTV providers.
Key features of the solution:
- On demand and live streaming of content such as CNN+ that is not geo-blocked.
- Video content is ordered according to popularity, interaction and publication time.
- RSS and a search facility is available.
- The player features web 2.0 tools, enabling users to share content via social networks.
- ‘play cuatro’ is not just a front-end solution. It is based on the media back-office product, with advanced features and in depth management tools that give control over content and advertising campaigns.
Within a view clicks a video can be uploaded, an ad can be changed or any of their broadcasts can be encoded and streamed live.
Currently we are specifying phase II with Cuatro. We have some very cool features in the next update, such as Facebook connect, 16:9 with HD streaming, an iPhone solution and best of all: Lost and Flash-Forward, the first time these two popular shows will be online in Spain.
We are very pleased to offer an end-to-end yet modular solution including signal acquisition, encoding, multi-format transcoding and streaming of contents to the market.
We will keep you updated.
